SAARC Secretary General appreciated the achievements of SDF in SAARC Member States;
Bhutan is the largest recipient of financial assistance from SDF
Today on 24th April 2019, H.E.Mr. Amjad Hussain B. Sial, Secretary General, SAARC, SAARC Secretariat, Kathmandu, Nepal visited SAARC Development Fund Secretariat. The other two dignitaries, Mr. Chanchal Chand Sarkar,Director, India and Mr . Sangye Chewang, Director, Bhutan from SAARC Secretariat, Kathmandu, Nepal also accompanied with H.E. Mr. Sial.
On this occasion, Dr. Sunil Motiwal, CEO, SDF appraised the delegates about the Key Achievements of SDF, the Future Action Plans of SDF and the Status of the Projects & Fund Commitments under the three windows of SDF viz. Social, Economic & Infrastructure Windows and MSME Program.
Dr. Motiwal highlighted the details of the 12 projects funded under the Social Window where the total fund disbursement is USD 47.98 Mn out of the total commitment fund of USD 73.69 Mn. He also informed about an in-principal approval on the two projects under the Social Window which are under the Co-Financing mode with International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SAARC CCI). Out of the 12 projects, 07 projects have been completed and closed under the Social Window and an impact evaluation study have been conducted on the completed and closed projects as informed by him.

He also informed that 1 project for financing the purchase of new ATR aircraft by Drukair Corporation Limited have been approved under the Economic Window and 04 Projects covering the focus areas – Hydro Power , Power Transmission & Distribution and Waste to Energy have been approved under the Infrastructure Window of SDF. The total Fund Commitment for the 05 projects is USD 73 Mn.
Further, upon launching of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) program by SDF in the SAARC Member States, the total fund allocated for all the SAARC Member States is USD 50 Mn.
The total fund commitment across the three windows of SDF viz. Social, Economic & Infrastructure Windows and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Program is USD 196.69 Mn.
H.E. Mr. Amjad Hussain B. Sial, SAARC Secretary General, appreciated the efforts and recent initiatives taken by SAARC Development Fund for the “Regional Integration through Project Funding and Collaboration”. He mentioned that SDF is playing an important role for the strategic growth of the SAARC region and committed for economic integration among the SAARC Member States.
